Some people love chocolate, some love the beach and some love steam. That's right, steam - the mist which is formed when the vapor from boiling water condenses in air, steam.
Geoff Hudspith's life long commitment has been to merge his two biggest passions resulting in his steam powered bicycle. Over the course of thirty odd years Geoff has tested and refined his invention and in it's current form is reliable enough that he takes part in European steam rallies. According to Geoff the bike produces about 1/4 hp and can sustain a speed of 8 mph and will average about 6-8 mpg of water or 60-70 mpg of paraffin fuel.
Understandably it's transformation from a human powered machine has left it with an unwieldy appearance, but as Geoff points out it's still fairly balanced;
"The weight of the boiler is largely counterbalanced by the weight of the flywheel, transmission and water pump, etc, and the water tank on the rear right hand side when underway. It is only ever a problem when lifting the machine up or down the stairs to my first floor council flat, single handed, when the front end tries to flop over to the left all the time."
