Spring 2009
Welcome to between2wheels. This is my portal for the passion of riding and my ode to the bicycle and all of its two wheeled brethren.
explore. experience. evolve.
Three years ago I chose those three words as the motto for between2wheels. When I began this site it was the result of becoming reinvigorated with bicycling. I had recently moved from the city to rural New Hampshire and the twisting, remote, tree-lined back roads beckoned to be explored by bike. I bought myself a Trek 520 steel touring road bike, which I aptly named “Rocinante”, and began to fall in love all over again. The road eventually led to the trails and in no time thereafter I found myself also thoroughly enjoying mountain biking.
After 2 years and more than 5000 miles commuting and touring and mountain biking, my lust began to wander towards motorized recreation. In the fall of 2007 I purchased a 1982 Yamaha 650 Maxim - low miles and in really nice shape for her age – and motorcycling quickly opened up a new world for me.
I rapidly put over 4000 miles on my “starter bike” and by mid 2008 I focused my sights on a new baby… The 2008 Kawasaki Versys was garnering very high praise and from all of the info I was able to devour on it we sounded like a perfect match. The “V” is a versatile and efficient Supermoto style street bike which is perfect for everyday use as well as long weekend cruises. At just under 10k miles in her short life with me, we’ve done quite a bit of both.
My evolution from bicycles to motorcycles has left my human powered steeds covered in a years worth of dust - however this is going to change. With Spring upon us I’m itching to get on the motorcycle every chance I get, but I’m also eager to start riding the bicycle again. The connection with a wandering road and the tangibility of the environment as it rolls by is unsurpassed when traveling between two wheels.
So, what will you find here?
I make ZERO money from this endeavor so any ads or links you see are on this site because I wanted them here. Particularly my visit Warner, New Hampshire section which is just my way of promoting our small town.
For the first two years I used this site as a journal of sorts. I wrote about my bicycling experiences and posted news particularly about bicycling. With less time to write and my new found passion for motorcycling the site has lately taken on a news/reviews feel predominantly about motorcycling. My plan moving forward is to merge the two and begin again to post updates about my riding experiences. What you will always find here is a passion for being between two wheels.
I’ve recently started to “Twitter”, which is more in line with how I like to communicate with the world… short, sometimes incoherent burst of illogicality. I’ve added an applet in my side bar so you can follow along… or not.
And lastly, Cygnus. My year and a half old DDR black German Shepherd. When I’m not between2wheels my life typically revolves around him, so he’ll pop up on my site from time to time. And really, who doesn’t love a cute dog?
Thank you for visiting between2wheels and check back often. If you’re ever in New Hampshire be sure to visit our little village in the woods in Warner!
